Le Guess Who? tips: Toro Y Moi @De Affaire

As promised before, from now on, we will highlight some great acts at (Dutch) summer festivals. One of the nicest festivals in The Netherlands is De Affaire (previously known as De Valkhof Affaire). A free-entrance festival taking place from July 17 till July 23 in the medieval Valkhof Park in Nijmegen. From now on till the festivaldate we will tip you every week about one of the performing artists to make sure you won't change your mind and will travel to Nijmegen this summer.
For more info about the de Affaire: http://www.de-affaire.nl

Our first tip: Toro Y Moi.

Toro Y Moi is stage-name for the 23 year old recording artist Chaz Bundick, a multi-instrumentalist whiz-kid who grew up in Columbia, North Carolina and who now is part of the so-called “chillwave” scene (also refered to as glo-fi). We don’t care about the name of the scene. But Toro Y Moi made an absolutely beautiful record with the name “Causers of This” on Car Park Records. An album full of conflicting sounds as soul, freak-folk, hip-hop and electronica but the result is a very summerish sounding and exciting album. For those who like bands as Animal Collective, Panda Bear , Ariel Pink, Washed out or Neon Indian will appreciate Toro Y Moi as well. Or as The Guardian nicely wrote about him:
Expect lots of funk bass and fuzztone indie, and plenty of somnolent keyboard pop with a budget-lavish sheen, wafting beautifully but hazily out of your speakers like a weak radio transmission from a parallel universe where Kevin Shields was executive producer of Pet Sounds
