Instrument builder Yuri Landman featured on CNN

Avant-garde instrument builder Yuri Landman, who will present two workshops at Le Guess Who? 2010, has been interviewed by CNN about his profession. Landman has made instruments for several well known performers like Sonic Youth and dEUS; among participants of his workshops were famed musicians like members of C-mon & Kypski and A Place To Bury Strangers.

Like last year Landman will teach participants of his workshop how to build a twelve-stringed instrument called Home Swinger, an instrument with an Eastern sound to it. Not only will Landman present a workshop building a stringed instrument, in a second workshop he will teach participants how to build their own electric Kalimba. This instrument, also known as the Mbira (among other names), originates in Africa and is used in percussive dance music, R&B and hip hop.
