Le Guess Who? introduces part 4: Anika

Somewhere between music and politics. “Political Journalist” isn’t a credential we usually have in musician’s bios, but this is exactly what Anika was doing while living between Berlin and Bristol when she met Geoff Barrow. The producer was looking for a new singer to work with his band Beak>, and it was immediately clear they shared the same musical vision, including a love of punk, dub and 60s girl groups. Anika joined the band in the studio and recorded nine songs, including a cover of Yoko Ono’s “Yang Yang” in 12 days with no overdubs. Besides from that she’s been setting set up a temporary record label in Cardiff to help support local bands, relaunching a number of music venues, helping in the fight against music venue closures in Cardiff, organizing a film premiere, whilst at University, to help raise awareness of the Innocence Project. Now her 2011 tour schedule is so full she had to put her political journalist job on hold, let’s find out what she’s got up her sleeve! Who is Anika?

Anika will be performing at Le Guess Who? 2011 on Friday November 25th. Passepartout and day tickets are available via http://www.leguesswho.nl/
